University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
The University of Illinois began as Illinois Industrial University in 1867. In 1885 it became one of the original Land-Grant State Universities. The University has the largest public university library in the country.
Baylor University
Baylor University, located in Waco, Texas, was founded in 1845. Baylor is the largest Baptist University in the world. There are 14,000 students at all levels and over 800 faculty members, approximately half of whom are Baptist.
University of Alabama
Founded in 1831, the University of Alabama, located in Tuscaloosa, is the state's flagship university. There are almost 24,000 students, graduate and undergraduate at UA enrolled in over 200 programs.
University of Delaware
The University of Delaware grew from a small private academy begun in 1743 to a major university that was chartered in 1833. The main campus is in Newark and there are 5 other locations. The school has over 20,000 students and a faculty of 1,117.
University of Toronto
The University of Toronto was founded as King's College in 1827. The University has 50,871 students on three campuses.
The University of Arizona
The University was established in 1885 as the first college in the Arizona territories and is a designated Land Grant University. It is one of 62 members of the Association of American Universities.
University of Bath
The University of Bath is located in Bath, England. It received a Royal Charter in 1966 but its origins go back to the 16 Century. There are almost 12,000 students and about 1400 academic staff.
University of Cambridge
The University of Cambridge, located in Cambridge, England will be celebrating its 800th birthday in 2009. The school has approximately 18,000 students, both undergraduate and graduate.
University of Colorado
The University of Colorado is located in Boulder. There are almost 29,000 students and 3715 faculty members, including 4 Nobel Laureates and 7 MacArthur Fellows.
University of Dundee
The University of Dundee, originally part of the University of St. Andrews, has been an independent school since 1978. It is located in Dundee, Scotland which is Scotland's 4th largest city.
Johns Hopkins University
Johns Hopkins University, a highly selective university located in Baltimore, Maryland, was founded in 1876. The main campus has 4400 undergraduates and 1600 graduate students.
Michigan State University
Michigan State University, located in East Lansing, Michigan,is a Land-Grant University and member of The Big Ten Athletic Conference. It was founded in 1855 as a prototype for land grant institutions established under the Morrell Act.
Oxford University
Oxford University is, with Cambridge, one of the most prestigious Universities in Great Britain. There are approximately 18,000 students in residence. The exact date of its founding is unknown but there was some education taking place there in 1096.
University of Pittsburgh
The University was founded in 1787 as a small private school called Pittsburgh Academy. It became part of the State system in 1966. There are approximately 34,000 students.
Princeton University
Princeton University, located in Princeton, N.J., is a highly selective Ivy League University. It was chartered in 1746 as the College of New Jersey by the British. There are approximately 4,700 undergraduates at Princeton and 700 full time faculty.
Rutgers University
Rutgers is the State University of New Jersey, located in New Brunswick with branches in Newark and Camden. Along with William and Mary, Rutgers is a colonial college that became a public university.
Southern Methodist University
SMU is a private University of about 11,000 students and 600 faculty located near Dallas. The University was founded in 1911 by the Methodist Church, but is non-sectarian in its teaching.
University of Connecticut
UConn, located in Storrs and founded in 1881, is the state's flagship institution of higher learning. It is a major land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant, research University with over 16,000 undergraduate students at the Storrs campus.
University of Illinois at Chicago
The University of Illinois at Chicago was formed in 1982. Today there are about 25,000 students at UIC, making it the largest University in the Chicago area. There are more than 2000 faculty members.
University of Montana
The University of Montana, founded in 1893, is located in Missoula. It is part of the Montana University system. The total enrollment is about 14,000, and there are almost 1000 faculty members.
